MAKING HISTORY IN A SMALL TOWN

    1883 - 1960's

John Koch purchased part of Koch Farm Sanctuary in 1883 upon arriving from Germany. Around 1919, John's son Peter purchased additional land to complete the Koch farm property. This land became Peter's son William J. Koch's home farm for the next 40 years. This century farm was mainly dairy enjoying a close proximity to market and rich fertile ground for haying and grazing. Bill and Lorraine Koch operated the farm since the sixties.

    1960 - 1990's

They used it to earn a living and feed their family. Lorraine was famous locally for her cooking, fruits and vegetables, jams, jellies and canning. They grew many varieties including apples, strawberries, cherries, & plums. They produced maple syrup and lived simply off the land. Bill Koch was an environmentalist and a wood carver.

    1980 – 1990's

Bill Koch ensured the Koch Farm Legacy by restoring White Tail Pond and placing the land in the RIM (Reinvest In Minnesota) program that now holds the wetland in perpetuity. His reverence of the land and his stewardship of wildlife completes the legacy.

    1958 - TODAY

Tim and Tom Koch are Bill and Lorraine’s sons. They carried on operations for many years raising families and carrying forward the rich traditions of their youth. They are grateful for the idyllic setting and want to share it with others. The cluster development concept allows for gracious parcels with common park land. Thoughtful development creates an opportunity for sound and lasting values.

    Independence

Just west of Minneapolis in Hennepin County, the City of Independence covers over thirty two square miles. Approximately thirty eight hundred people live there. The city has one of the lowest densities per square mile in the county. The terrain becomes more rolling, the old growth forest sections become more frequent, and your eye drifts to the horizon. Koch Farm Sanctuary is in Independence. Close enough to Target Field and Lake Minnetonka, out far enough for you to relax.

    Community

    — School Choice —

Delano & Orono. The neighborhood is located in Award winning Delano Schools. Delano has a low teacher student ratio and is very responsive to individual student needs. The student body is made up of a wide variety of backgrounds and the curriculum focuses on preparing the students for a bright future.

Open enrollment in Orono may be an option. The bus stops down the street. Once you enroll, you are good to go through graduation. Orono also has a great teacher student ratio and is known for producing well prepared graduates.
Providence Academy and other private options are also available.

    — Sports and Recreation —

Independence is known for golf, cycling, polo and other equestrian events, ultimate frisbee, and ultralight aircraft. Outdoor rinks, pond hockey, ice fishing on nearby lakes. Baker and Rebecca Parks are massive swaths of woods and offer swimming, boating, riflery, equestrian trails, ATV, and snowmobiling.

Golf courses include Baker National, Pioneer Creek, Windsong Farm, Timber Creek, and B’s on the river.

There are many boarding facilities for your horse and lots of country roads to ride your bike, horse or UTV. If you are a runner, you’ll find a home on the Luce Line, river roads and flat stretches of open county road.

    — Small Town Dining and Events —

Make your way to a small town near you. Koch Farm Sanctuary is located close to Loretto, Delano, Mound, Rockford, Hanover, Long Lake and Maple Plain. Most are on the Crow River. All of them have their strong points. Because of the pressure from the metro, these little towns are coming alive with shopping, restaurants, music, events and sports. Join your neighbors exploring the shops and eateries. Take a walk along the river or find your favorite establishment.

Tour De Tonka is an annual bike race. There are regular polo matches off Turner Road. Enjoy fall or get married at the apple orchards.
